Module 7: Incitement to Hatred
1h 30m
Commitment VII
We pledge to publicly denounce all instances of advocacy of hatred that incite to violence, discrimination or hostility, including those that lead to atrocity crimes. We bear a direct responsibility to denounce such advocacy, particularly when it is conducted in the name of religion or belief.
About This Module
Distinguishing between free speech, hate speech and incitement to violence or discrimination is often difficult and complex. Theological populism, political populism and religious fundamentalism can contribute to discrimination. Religious discourse is sometimes manipulated for political purposes. This module will help participants to identify forms of speech that can contribute to violence and discrimination and gain the understanding to avoid these types of speech.
